StarCraft Power Saver ********************* 1. Introduction =============== StarCraft Power Saver is a tool that patches StarCraft so that it uses less CPU time than it normally would. This causes the computer to use less power because the CPU is able to sleep more often. Such behavior is particularly important on laptops where low CPU usage leads to greater battery life. StarCraft Power Saver's web page is: http://ossguy.com/starcraft_power_saver/ 2. Limitations ============== After patching StarCraft with StarCraft Power Saver, do NOT use StarCraft on Battle.net. StarCraft Power Saver modifies your StarCraft executable and Battle.net requires an unmodified StarCraft executable. Your Battle.net account can be suspended if you use a modified StarCraft executable. A modified StarCraft executable should be able to play LAN games and single-player games, including campaigns, without issue. If you like using StarCraft Power Saver and want to use it with Battle.net, please contact Blizzard Entertainment and ask them to fix StarCraft so it uses less CPU time. StarCraft Power Saver may cause abnormal behavior in StarCraft. Testing has shown that the modified version of StarCraft behaves very similarly to an unmodified version, but there may be cases that were untested where abnormal behavior occurs. If you are experiencing abnormal behavior, please report your experiences using the contact information on the StarCraft Power Saver web page: http://ossguy.com/starcraft_power_saver/ 3. Usage ======== To use StarCraft Power Saver, run starcraft_power_saver.exe from the command line. Specify the location of your StarCraft.exe file as a parameter. For example, if starcraft_power_saver.exe is in the current directory and you have installed StarCraft to C:\Program Files\Starcraft, you would use the following command: starcraft_power_saver "C:\Program Files\Starcraft\StarCraft.exe" StarCraft Power Saver will respond with a "successfully patched" message if the patching is successful. After patching, StarCraft will use less CPU time, reducing your computer's power consumption. To open a command prompt, go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. 4.
