Denver is the founder and lead developer of JMP, a freedom-respecting chat gateway that lets you text and call people using a real phone number without a phone (part of the Soprani.ca family of projects). Denver also works part-time handling the technical side of Software Freedom Conservancy‘s license compliance work, triaging new reports and verifying complete corresponding source.
As a free/libre/open-source software (“OSS” or “FLOSS”) and free culture advocate and open standards proponent, Denver is constantly looking for new ways of communicating and exchanging information that are more resilient and flexible than the models of the past that we use today.
A University of Waterloo (UW) Computer Science alumnus, Denver founded Waterloo Libre Software Group and led Waterloo Students for the Information Commons while studying there. After UW, Denver designed and built Bit Reader USB (top), as well as its firmware and companion desktop tool, Bit Inspector, both of which are freedom-respecting software. He has also written patches accepted into GNU wdiff, Wine, and the kernel named Linux.
Denver has given talks at CopyCamp Toronto, FOSSLC’s Summercamp, the Open Video Conference, Texas Linux Fest, LinuxCon North America, and LibrePlanet.
